How to connect with Jesus in Prayer
During Christ’s mortal ministry, Christ taught us how to pray and he invited us to pray always that we may conquer satan. When we pray the Savior’s words give us the assurance that God is listening and that he answers our prayers. He said, ask and it shall be given thee, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you. When we kneel in prayer, with real intent, having faith in Christ believing that we will receive, the very ground where we are kneeling can be our own Sacred Grove.
In these moments, despair can be replaced with hope, fear can be replaced with comfort and peace, doubt can be replaced with faith.
Have you ever wondered how to apply the atonement in your own life?
Sincere prayer is the key that unlocks the cleansing power of the Savior’s marvelous gift to the world. Enos discovered this as he prayed all day to satisfy the hunger of his soul. He said in Enos 1: 5-8:
And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed. And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away. And I said: Lord, how is it done?
And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.
Alma the Younger had a similar experience. When he found himself being harrowed up in the memories of his sins, he cried unto the Lord and said in Alma 36:18-21
Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death. And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more. And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain! Yea, I say unto you, my son, that there could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea, and again I say unto you, my son, that on the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy.
I invite you to pray to Him.
Brothers and sisters, let us not tire crying unto the Lord in the name of His Son. I invite you to pray unto Him and to always give thanks for the blessings that he gives. Pray for your families. Pray for your testimonies. Pray that you might always recognize the voice of the spirit. Pray for the courage to follow that council. Lay your burdens at his feet and come to the Savior with full purpose of heart and he will reveal himself unto you. I give you my witness that this is true.
